REGULATIONS
THE 1st NEXTGEN CHESS TOURNAMENT 2025
I. PURPOSE:
- To create a healthy, friendly environment for chess players to meet, connect, and compete.
- To contribute to the broad and sustainable development of chess in the community.
- To provide opportunities for players to gain competitive experience and improve their skills, aiming for year-end tournaments in 2025.
II. VENUE AND TIME:
1. Venue: 6th Floor, The Golden Palm Building – 21 Le Van Luong, Nhan Chinh, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi.
2. Schedule:
Sunday morning, August 17, 2025
- 08:00: Opening ceremony, players settle into their seats
- 08:30 – 11:30: 7 rounds of rapid chess
- 11:45: Closing ceremony and award presentation
III. PARTICIPANTS AND FORMAT:
1. Eligibility:
- The tournament will have the following sections (mixed boys and girls):
+ U7: Born on or after January 1, 2018
+ U9: Born on or after January 1, 2016
+ U11: Born on or after January 1, 2014
+ Open: All students, university students, and parents whose children participate in the tournament
- Ineligible players:
+ Any player who has won an individual medal at national or international events in 2023, 2024, or 2025. For the National Youth Championships, players with individual medals in Rapid, Blitz, or Standard in these years are not eligible.
+ Any player who achieved the title of National Class 1 Player or National Master in 2023, 2024, or 2025.
+ Any player holding a FIDE title.
2. Format:
- Rapid chess, Swiss-system, 7 rounds (adjusted as necessary for each section), 10 minutes per player per game.
- Current Vietnam Chess Federation rules will apply.
IV. TIE-BREAKS:
- Rankings will be determined by the Swiss system: Total points; Head-to-head results among tied players; Buchholz Cut 1; Buchholz; Number of games with Black pieces; Number of wins with Black pieces; Drawing lots if still tied.
V. PRIZES:
Individual prizes (per section): Cup, Gold/Silver/Bronze medals, cash, and gifts from the Organizing Committee (OC) for players placing 1st to 4th.
+ 1st Place: Cup, Gold medal + 600,000 VND + gift from OC
+ 2nd Place: Silver medal + 400,000 VND + gift from OC
+ 3rd Place (x2): Bronze medal + 200,000 VND + gift from OC
Female prizes: Awarded only if there are at least 4 female participants in the section. If fewer than 6 female players, only 1st and 2nd prizes will be awarded.
+ 1st Female: Gold medal + 300,000 VND + gift from OC
+ 2nd Female: Silver medal + 200,000 VND + gift from OC
+ 3rd Female: Bronze medal + 150,000 VND + gift from OC
VI. ENTRY FEE & REGISTRATION:
1. Entry fees:
200,000 VND/player (individual registration).
150,000 VND/player for teams with 5+ players.
100,000 VND/player for teams with 10+ players.
2. Registration procedure:
2.1. For individual registration:

Step 3: Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment by the OC.
2.2. For team registration:

VII. OTHER REGULATIONS & APPEALS:
All appeals during the tournament must be submitted directly to the OC. The OC’s decision is final.
